Second Ordinary Session
Opening plenary session of the second Ordinary Session of the year 2025, this Tuesday, June 10 at 4pm in the…
President of the Senate
The Senate President is the second personality of the Republic and provisionally exercises the functions of the President of the Republic in the case of either death, resignation, or incapacitation of the President.
However, the Senate President has no constitutional powers to dissolve the National Assembly nor the organisation of any referendum during the period he presides over the election of a new President in office.
He is usually elected by Senate Members and plays quite a fundamental role in the life of the institution. He is the protagonist who presides over Bureau meetings, Chairmen’s Conference and the harbinger of all deliberations and debates during plenary sessions.
The Senate President could be consulted by the President of the Republic in the case of any eventual dissolution of the National Assembly .
